Interview of Patrick Mongillon, member of the 62nd Quality European Congress Steering Committee

Patrick Mongillon is Vice-President of France Qualité and President of AFQP Ile-de-France. He was awarded as Quality European Leader in 2015.

// YOU BELONG TO THE ORGANIZATION TEAM, BUT YOU ARE ABOVE ALL A QUALITY MANAGER, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM THIS CONGRESS ?
This Congress is the 62nd of EOQ ones. I hope that for each of us it will be an opportunity to better know EOQ, its strategy and its added value in Europe : its offer and the way of promoting and enhancing the Quality processes.
The attendants expect more than everything a “plus” in terms of content of presentations, in order to catch new ideas and practices in the field of selected themes.
This Congress is a unique opportunity to discuss with actors coming from anywhere in the world : they’ll be in Paris during two days, let’s make the most of it !
I think that it is otherwise an opportunity to take a step back from Quality in 2018 and the vision of tomorrow Quality leader.

// YOU ARE PARTICULARLY IN CHARGE OF THE CONGRESS PROGRAM, CAN YOU ELABORATE A LITTLE BIT MORE ON THE CONTENT OF YOUR ROLE ?
I try hard to coordinate the organization in many facets : localization, communication, web site, program, etc.
Program is obviously a key element to attract attendants, so it’s important to conceive an attractive program with a strong and actual catchphrase. Sessions must be stimulating and more oriented towards practices and tangible results, than towards academic presentations.
One of my roles is also to find high level speakers to consolidate these sessions. One specific session requires my attention : the China-Europe Quality Forum, organized with CAQ-China Association for Quality. One of my responsabilities is otherwise to present a report about the advancement of Congress preparation at the level of EOQ Governing Board.

// HOW DO YOU IDENTIFY AND SELECT SPEAKERS ? IS IT EASY TO CONVINCE THEM TO MAKE PRESENTATIONS ?
First of all, I receive voluntary proposals, issued from the international community : high level leaders from all countries propose speeches by reference to the structured program.
Naturally, our networks AFQP in France and EOQ in Europe contribute to complete the list of potential speakers. Governing Boards are definitely actors in terms of identifying speakers.
I can count also on the most valuable help of Erick Perruche, Foreign Trade Advisor of France.
The selection Committee is based on AFQP Governing Board and tries hard to consider the speech proposal through different aspects : a speech… if possible innovative and focused on trendy subjects, a… best practice and/or… tangible results – thinking of a complementary panorama in terms of themes and countries.
The Quality community in Europe and elsewhere in the world is motivated to talk about Quality process and we’ve no particular difficulty to convince interlocutors.

//ACCORDING PDCA PRINCIPLES, WHAT WILL MAKE OF THIS EDITION A DIFFERENT, EVEN BETTER EVENT THAN PREVIOUS ONES ?
Of course, we’ll have to wait until the end of Congress, to determine to what extent this edition will have been different or better.
Countries in charge of organizing the last two events (Slovenia in 2017 and Finland in 2016) have done a remarkable job.
Our wish was to propose themes around practices and obtained results in order to enhance Quality processes and their contribution to firms successes.
I think that we innovate, proposing a session dedicated to the Quality leader role and involvement regarding business transformation.

// HAVE YOU INFORMATION TO SHARE IN PREVIEW, NEWS TO ANNOUNCE ?
I would mention two innovations : the “Quality European Leader” sequence will be integrated in a plenary session (and not in a parallel one), including an intense moment of 5 minutes per candidate as a convincing pitch.
We’ve also conceived a roleplay moment around expectations of different functions regarding the Quality leader work.
And, finally, we intend to welcome a surprise guest : quiet please !
